A Letter From an Indian Cricket Fan

I was browsing through some videos in YouTube, and came across that old Pepsi commercial where SRK enters the Indian dressing room and refers to Dravid as Sourav. "Sourav, peele peele."
Laughed like that after a long time. Couldn't get tha

t thing out of my mind so decided to pen something down!

Read it till the end. Or don't read it at all.
_/\_

Rahul Sharad Dravid and Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Lakshman are two people I grew up watching alongwith Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. This used to be the much famed quartet. Now with three of them gone, Sachin is the only one who of the revered four, standing amidst conspicuous inexperienced lads.

What made me write this is actually Dravid's remark on Pujara's recent innings when he said that "He looks like me while batting." And secondly, India's not so good state in the Motera Test. Yes, we've been a victim of poor umpiring, but it isn't the only reason for our debacle.

Pujara is at his lethal best, Kohli is the most sane thing going in Indian cricket and with the likes of Rahane and Rayudu the future definitely looks glorious. But don't we feel that void in the Indian middle order? The void that can never be filled!

Can we forget Dravid's 180 at Edens? Or Lakshman's last wicket stand with Ojha which made India win the Mohali test? We can't take those pictures of Ganguly twirling his T-shirt frantically at Lords, out of your minds. Can we?

Will anyone be able to emulate Dravid's tenacity, Ganguly's passion or Lakshman's serenity? No matter how many records the young brigade makes or breaks, they'll never amount up to the trio's irreplaceable contribution.
These gentlemen as always, came about quietly, played along contentedly, and left on a sombre note. Minus the furore.
From the cute cameos, to the monumental epics. From the rightly paced, to the saving grace, the three of you did it all.

With your departures, we've been left hopelessly depleted. We don't have a middle order to call our own.
Your retirements were inevitable, everyone's is. And The team will move on..it always does. But it'll never be the same. Again.
We will sorely miss you. We'll miss you for that effortless ease, for those silent assaults on bowlers, for that calmness, that reverence. You all have been a part of that Indian team which fueled my passion for cricket! ♥♥

With lots of respect and adoration,
Another stupid fan who will always look up to you.
